Slytherin Head of House
Look, it's no secret that last year ended... well, pretty tragically. So we all figured that this year was going to start where we left off. Expecting some secret passageways into Hogwarts to escape the fog, it was a relief that we were told we weren't going to be returning. Instead, we packed out bags and headed for France! Whilst three of the houses were able to enjoy some time getting to know our magical friends across the English Channel, the Slytherin house unfortunately had only themselves. And a broom closet. Here's Professor Fuller-Thompson with the latest.
Coming back for another year of Head Snake, did you find the changes to structure easy or challenging to deal with?
Well, in some ways it was easy and similar to last year, but this year did come with a lot of new challenges. Moving to a whole new school made things a little difficult, especially with limited space and not being in our own space. All in all, though, it was alright.
Having come back to Hogwarts, how much changed in the years you weren’t here? Slytherin students still embody all of the same qualities?
In some ways, things have changed a lot and in other ways, things haven't changed at all. The Slytherin students are just like the Slytherins that I went to school with when I was a kid. Some of them even remind me a little bit of myself. It's very interesting to watch.
What was your thought process when you found out we were going to Beauxbatons? Excited? Nervous? Just wanting to get into the Hogwarts Slytherin common room?
To be honest, I wasn't too excited. I knew that we would be walking on eggshells since we'd be sharing a very different space with a very different kind of people. At the same time, though, I was glad to get away from Hogwarts for a time while the situation over there got handled. It's safe to say that at this point I really miss the Slytherin Common Room - for the space, most of all.
How did the house feel living in the broom closet?
Oh, they weren't happy at all. Ask any of them and they'll give you an earful. I had to start taking points away for anyone who complained about it because I was tired of hearing it.
What advice would you give your house as they either graduate or move forward a year?
In the words of an former, very wise Headmaster.... Stay alive.

Slytherin Prefects
Seventh year Patrick Dooley returned for a another term of prefecty goodness, albeit at an entirely different school. This reporter sat down with the Slytherin prefect to hear his thoughts about the term, about the job, and about what the future holds.
Hey, Patrick! Welcome back to another term as prefect! What were you expecting after your first term as prefect?
I sure wasn’t expecting to end up at Beauxbatons that’s for sure. I was honestly expecting the job to be easier since I knew what to expect.
So was this term easier or harder than last term?
Both. It had moments of ease but also had difficult moments which isn’t easy.
How did you feel about having to prefect at somewhere other than Hogwarts?
It was weird because I didn’t feel like I had the authority to do things even though I did.
And now that you’ve experienced Beauxbatons, what were your impressions? Be honest, please.
They’re a bit too snooty for me.
Based on what happened this term, what do you think about the Beauxbatons justice system? Do you think it was fair and that it worked?
I think they’re way too quick to judge. And I mean I guess things worked out overall right....
Okay, but did you see that BABY DRAGON, THOUGH?
I’m sad to say I only caught a glimpse of it as everyone was running about chaotically.
How did you manage to de-stress this term amidst all the crazy?
I tried to enjoy the grounds. I’ll give it to the Beauxbatons kids they’ve got a gorgeous set of grounds.
You’re graduating this term, right? What did you miss being able to do at Hogwarts for your final term?
This is going to sound totally silly, but I missed the kitchens and sitting with the house elves and talking over a sandwich.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m going to try out for a couple quidditch teams. Maybe some university at the same time or going to the ministry for a bit next.
Do you have any advice for the Slytherins coming after you?
Work hard and don’t be afraid to take a chance. But live a little on the wild side. Seven years goes really fast.

If sixth year Slytherin prefect Gunnar McCarthy seems a bit taciturn, imagine trying to interview him for the Yearbook. Now, pour yourself a cup of tea, pull up a stool, and enjoy watching this reporter pull a few good thoughts out of him instead.
Hey, Gunnar! Congratulations on becoming prefect!
Yeah, cool, thanks.
Was being prefect everything you hoped and MORE? Was it better or worse than you thought?
Being prefect was pretty much exactly what I expected it would be. I had to be extra responsible and make sure people were following rules, which isn’t nearly as fun as it sounds. But it definitely has its perks.
How did you feel about having to prefect at somewhere other than Hogwarts?
Honestly? I didn’t think that part would matter so much since we were supposed to technically be separated with the Hogwarts lot still sticking to our own curriculum while under the Beauxbatons roof. But it was weird. It was still their school, you know? And it almost felt like we were encroaching on their territory anyway.
And now that you’ve experienced Beauxbatons, what were your impressions? Be honest, please.
Well, I’m glad we got to go to at least check it out. My dad went there for a few years, and if my siblings and I hadn’t gone to Hogwarts, we would have went to Beauxbatons. So it was nice to at least see what that would have been like. And while I prefer Hogwarts, though maybe it’s because I’ve been there all along instead, I have to admit that Beauxbatons has a much nicer music room. I’ll miss it.
Based on what happened this term, what do you think about the Beauxbatons justice system? Do you think it was fair and that it worked?
It was… interesting. I suppose in theory it could work fairly well. But as certain people seemed awfully biased with their own agenda, it was doomed to fail.
Okay, but did you see that BABY DRAGON, THOUGH?
Heh. I sure did. I have to admit it was pretty cool, even though it clearly got out of control.
My friend thinks you’re really cute. That’s just a fact, not a question. Uh, thank you?
Good genes, I guess. But if your friend is a first year like you, it might do you both better to get to know my little brother. He has good genes too.
If we can go back to Hogwarts next term, what are you looking forward to experiencing again? Some of us need advice because we’ve never been there.
The Prefects' Bathroom for sure, since I have yet to see it, though I suppose not everyone will get to. And I'm hoping Quidditch is back. I haven't played in a while and I kind of miss it. And most of all, my common room. Do you have any idea how terrible it is to sleep in a broom closet with an entire house of students? I don't think I can do it another year.
What are your plans for the future?
Well, this summer I'm going to be interning at the British Ministry of Magic in the magical creatures department. And after school, I'm planning on going to university to study animal and creature nutrition. Those are the basics, but beyond that, I'm not sure yet.
Do you have any advice for the Slytherins coming after you?
It's okay to be selective when it comes to choosing friends and who deserves your trust. Not everyone understands the true meaning of loyalty and friendship. And that's good advice for anyone, not just Slytherins.
